Wheel, shift unit and brake disc on BES2 and FIT1
Removing and refitting the rear wheel
Section titled “Removing and refitting the rear wheel”For a puncture or a service job:
- Switch the e-bike system off and take the battery out.
- Separate the shift unit’s connector at the rear wheel.
- Remove the wheel with its shift unit as you would any SPEEDHUB wheel: Removing the rear wheel.
Refit in reverse order: Fitting the rear wheel. Then join the connector, put the battery back and switch the system on. On the connectors: Installation on Bosch BES2 and Panasonic FIT1.
Removing the shift unit
Section titled “Removing the shift unit”To change the brake disc or the shift unit, or to relace the wheel, the shift unit comes off the SPEEDHUB. The steps are the same as for any E-14: Removing the E-14 shift unit. The essentials:
- before removing it, shift to gear 14 and note (photograph) the axle plate position;
- with the unit off, do not tilt the wheel towards the open side — oil can run out and the two freewheel springs can fall out;
- when refitting, use new paper gaskets, the grub screw must protrude 2 mm, gear 1’s narrow collar faces the gearbox, and the axle plate’s five screws are TX20, 3 Nm.
If the shift unit is not in gear 14: connected to the system, battery in, switched on, take it to 14 with the + button, then switch off, remove the battery and separate the connector. New shift units come in gear 14.
Brake disc
Section titled “Brake disc”On a laced wheel the disc goes on once the shift unit is off: Fitting a brake disc with the E-14. The four M8×0.75 bolts take a 5 mm Allen key, 10 Nm; mind the rotation arrow on the disc. If the old disc carries a Rohloff magnet holder, move it to the new one.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I remove the rear wheel with an E-14 on BES2 or FIT1?
- Switch the e-bike system off, take the battery out and separate the shift unit's connector at the rear wheel. The wheel then comes out with the shift unit just like any SPEEDHUB wheel. Refit in reverse order, reconnecting the plug only with the system off.
