System overview

The E-14 2.0 consists of a shifter on the handlebar, an adapter inside the frame and a shift unit on the hub. Power comes from the e-bike’s battery, and the e-bike’s display shows the gear — so the E-14 always works together with its e-bike system.

In the drawing, the purple items are the e-bike system maker’s own parts.

The E-14 2.0 shift unit on the hub

The shift unit is the electromechanical part that shifts the SPEEDHUB’s gears. A purple 6-pin plug connects it to the adapter.

The DC-CAN adapter with its cables

The DC-CAN adapter is the central link between the e-bike system and the E-14: every part gets its power and communicates through it. It usually goes in the down tube or seat tube. The older 8802-04 adapter must always be connected to the Bosch High Power Port (HPP) — directly, on a CX motor; today’s Adapter2 can go to the HPP or the BCC.

The connection cable’s plug

As the adapter sits roughly mid-frame and the shift unit at the rear wheel, a connection cable runs between them. Its length depends on the frame and cable routing:

To fit the adapter, the Bosch drive unit has to come out of the frame.

  1. Before fitting, connect the purple 6-pin cable in the length that suits the frame to the adapter, and the orange 4-pin Bosch plug to the Bosch High Power Port (HPP).
  2. Pull the handlebar button’s blue 4-pin cable up from below, through the Bosch mounting bracket, into the frame and on to the handlebar.
  3. Push the adapter up from below through the bracket into the frame — padded with foam if needed, so it does not rattle.

Older E-14 (1.0) systems use a DC/DC-CAN converter instead of the adapter; a black 6-pin Hirose plug connects it to the Bosch system, and it is fitted the same way.

Drawing of the E-14 Trigger with its buttons and mounting parts

  • Shift up: press button (1) with your thumb in direction A, or pull it with your index finger in direction B.
  • Shift down: press button (2) with your thumb in direction C.
  • One press, one gear; a long press or pull starts Multi-Shift.

Fitting:

  1. It only fits 22.2 mm handlebars, and only on the right, between brake lever and grip.
  2. The groove (3) allows the clamp (4) only one position. Slide the Trigger onto the bar with its cable pointing to the middle of the bar.
  3. Nothing may touch the Trigger when you pull the brake lever.
  4. Tighten screw (5) first, then screw (6), both TX10 at 0.8 Nm.
  5. Plug the blue 4-pin plug (7) into the Rohloff cable’s socket, and test it.

The E-14 handlebar button on the bar

It has three buttons: + towards gear 14, − towards gear 1; the M button has no function on the E-14 2.0. It fits 22–22.3 mm bars, on the right or left; we recommend the right, between grip and brake lever, placed so + and − are easy to reach with your thumb.

  1. Unscrew the clamp’s two screws (3 mm Allen) and put the button on a free part of the bar.

  2. Fit the clamp and tighten the two screws gently and alternately, so the gap is about the same on both sides. Finally tighten both to 1 Nm max.

The cable exit at the clamp

  3. Connect the blue 4-pin plug to the adapter’s blue 4-pin socket.

Route and fix the cable so it cannot kink or twist, does not get trapped when steering or pulling the brake lever, and does not chafe where it enters the frame. Do not clean the button with a pressure washer, cleaning agents or lubricating sprays — just a soft cloth lightly dampened with water.

Fitting, operation and maintenance details depend on the e-bike system:

Frequently asked questions

What parts make up the E-14 2.0 system?
The shifter on the handlebar (Trigger or handlebar button), the DC-CAN adapter inside the frame, the shift unit on the hub, and the cable connecting the two. Power and the gear display come from the e-bike's motor and battery.
