E-14 error codes
When a fault occurs, the e-bike system’s display shows an error code. For a quick repair, note it down — or photograph it — and tell us. This page lists the E-14 2.0’s codes on the Bosch Smart System; for BES2 and FIT1 systems see error codes on BES2 and FIT1.
Many of the steps involve Bosch’s service software (DiagnosticTool 3) and swapping cables and parts one by one — workshop jobs: book an appointment.
Reading the fault memory in the app
Section titled “Reading the fault memory in the app”In the E-14 2.0 app’s settings choose Show diagnostic memory: the app reads and shows the E-14’s memory. You can send the data to the Rohloff service with your phone’s own e-mail app. About the app: App and firmware.
When there is no error code
Section titled “When there is no error code”Symptom: the E-14 sometimes does not shift, or only in one direction; automatic calibration cannot be started with the handlebar button; after a while it shifts down on its own, and again right after an upshift.
Cause: a cable damaged by a cable coil wound too tightly (parallel scratches across the cable), or a faulty handlebar button or its cable.
Fix: check the handlebar button and its cable to the DC-CAN adapter.
Symptom: the shift unit makes a pulsing sound but does not shift.
Fix: the shift unit has to come off, and the intermediate gear and shift gear be checked for damage and correct seating: Removing and fitting the shift unit.
The codes
Section titled “The codes”542006 — same gear detected
Section titled “542006 — same gear detected”Shifting works; the shift unit beeps three times at switch-on. Cause: a fault in the e-bike system’s software. Fix: since 14 July 2025 an update via the Bosch Flow app solves it. If it still appears, the workshop clears it with DiagnosticTool 3 and removes and re-adds the eShift; you then ride through every gear with assistance so the system learns them again.
1C7410 — no connection at start-up
Section titled “1C7410 — no connection at start-up”If shifting works (three beeps at switch-on): the code only appears in the memory; the cause is a software routine that did not run fully at start-up. Fix: clear the fault; update the E-14 firmware and the Bosch software (the Bosch Flow app first); switch the system off and on.
If shifting does not work (no beep): same cause; it can happen after updating to firmware 2.4.0.2. Fix:
- Update the Bosch software; if that is not possible, roll the shift unit back to firmware 2.3.1.0 with the E-14 2.0 app.
- With the system off, check the connections, testing shifting after each: shift unit + connection cable, connection cable + DC-CAN adapter, DC-CAN adapter + motor.
- Swap in, one at a time, a test shift unit, connection cable and DC-CAN adapter, testing after each (Diagnostic set).
- Check the E-14 firmware. If the fault is gone, clear the code; if not, bring the bike to us.
1C7411 — connection lost
Section titled “1C7411 — connection lost”It works; the code is only in the memory; three beeps at switch-on. Cause: the E-14 was disconnected with the system on. Fix: clear the fault. If it does not shift: clear it, update the E-14 firmware, switch the system off and on, and check the connections one by one. If that fails, the workshop contacts the Bosch service line with a DiagnosticTool 3 report.
1C7412 — authentication failed
Section titled “1C7412 — authentication failed”No connection to the electronic shifting was made, so shifting may not work. Fix: restart the e-bike. If it does not shift: diagnostic report, clear the fault, restart, software update if available; if it persists, the Bosch service line with a DiagnosticTool 3 report.
1C7413 — incompatible software
Section titled “1C7413 — incompatible software”The control unit’s software is not compatible with electronic shifting, so it cannot be used. Fix: clear the fault, update the software in the Bosch Flow app, restart the e-bike. If it persists, contact the manufacturer.
1C7414 — more than one eShift system
Section titled “1C7414 — more than one eShift system”No function; three beeps at switch-on. Cause: more than one eShift component is installed. Fix: remove the surplus eShift component, clear the fault, restart the system.
1C7440 — motor blocked
Section titled “1C7440 — motor blocked”Cause: the E-14’s last shift was interrupted, its motor is blocked, or you pushed too hard on the pedals while shifting. Fix: try shifting again with less load — if it works, carry on. If it still will not shift: save a diagnostic report, clear the fault, then check that the shift unit’s gear and the gear on the gearbox’s shift shaft are undamaged and fitted the right way round (Removing and fitting the shift unit). After that: workshop.
1C7441 — sensor faulty
Section titled “1C7441 — sensor faulty”Fix: acknowledge the fault on the display, switch the system off and on. If it shifts, carry on. If not: diagnostic report, clear the fault, restart; if it persists, workshop.
1C7443 — supply voltage too low
Section titled “1C7443 — supply voltage too low”Shifting does not work. Fix: save a diagnostic report, clear the fault, then with the system off check the connections one by one (shift unit + cable, cable + adapter, adapter + motor) and, if needed, swap in test parts in order: shift unit, cable, adapter. If it persists, workshop. Since firmware 2.5.2.0, this code no longer appears wrongly after a Bosch update.
1C7445 — gear calibration failed
Section titled “1C7445 — gear calibration failed”Cause: a fault during calibration, load on the pedals during calibration, or a grub screw screwed too far into the hub axle. Fix:
- Restart calibration by holding the up and down buttons together while switching the system on — or calibrate from the app (Shifting functions and settings). Keep the pedals unloaded meanwhile.
- Repeat the automatic calibration: maintenance on the Bosch Smart System.
- Check the grub screw’s depth: Removing and fitting the shift unit.
- If it still fails, a manual calibration follows — for workshops only: Manual calibration.
1C7446 and 1C7447 — information
Section titled “1C7446 and 1C7447 — information”Not faults: gear calibration has started (1C7446) or finished successfully (1C7447).
What to have ready for the workshop
Section titled “What to have ready for the workshop”- a Bosch diagnostic report (made by the workshop)
- the Bosch drive unit type, number of batteries and display version
- the bike’s make and model
- the E-14 2.0 and SPEEDHUB serial numbers
- the error codes shown and a description of the fault
Frequently asked questions
- What does error 1C7410 mean?
- When the e-bike system started, no connection was made with the E-14. If the shift unit beeps three times at switch-on and still shifts, clearing the fault and updating the software is enough. If it does not beep or shift, the connections and parts have to be checked one by one — leave that to a workshop.
- What should I do if calibration stops with error 1C7445?
- Repeat it with no load on the pedals: hold the up and down buttons together while switching on. If that fails too, check the grub screw in the hub axle is not screwed in too far; a manual calibration may be needed.
