Classic app modes (E-14 1.0)
This is about the Classic app for the E-14 (1.0) on Bosch BES2 and Panasonic FIT1 systems; for the app itself and what an update needs, see E-14 (1.0) — until 2023. The E-14 2.0 has the Rohloff E-14 2.0 app: App and firmware.
Connecting to the shift unit
Section titled “Connecting to the shift unit”All three modes start like this:
- Switch the e-bike system off and start the app (the phone needs internet).
- Enter the shift unit’s serial number, or scan its barcode with the camera icon — both are on the underside of the shift unit. Keep the scan window’s red line parallel to the barcode; move the phone closer or further away to focus.
- Switch the e-bike system on and wait for the shift unit’s soft beep. Then, within 60 seconds, tap Device. If no connection is made, switch the system off and on and start again.
- Choose the shift unit found. If other E-14s are nearby, switch the other e-bikes off.
Normal mode: updating
Section titled “Normal mode: updating”- The app shows the installed and the available software version. If they are the same, there is nothing to update (the start button is inactive).
- If there is a newer one, start the update. Keep the phone within 2 metres of the bike.
- The update takes about five minutes and can be cancelled at any time. It has worked when the status field reads “finished updating Device”.
- Close the app, switch the system off, wait 10 seconds, switch it on and check the version on the display: Maintenance on BES2 and FIT1.
Admin mode: changing software
Section titled “Admin mode: changing software”For workshops only. It is needed when the shift unit gets software for a different e-bike system — say a unit set up for Bosch is to work on Panasonic FIT.
- Use the icon at the top right of the app to enter Admin Mode (with a PIN), then connect as above.
- The WEB button lists the software versions available on the server for the different systems. The app also shows when you are switching systems (for example Bosch → Panasonic FIT).
- Choose the version and start the update. Again about five minutes, from no more than 2 metres.
- Then switch the system off, on again after 10 seconds, and check the version.
Diagnostic mode: sending operating data
Section titled “Diagnostic mode: sending operating data”- Once connected, the Analysis button becomes active — tap it. The app reads the shift unit’s operating data.
- Choose an e-mail app: the app fills in the Rohloff service address itself, you only need to send it.
Only that shift unit’s operating data is sent; by sending, you agree to its evaluation. The evaluation helps find the fault and suggest a repair. If you would rather leave it to us: book an appointment.
