Fitting the rear wheel

Fitting is removal in reverse:

  1. put the wheel in,
  2. secure the axle — and the long torque arm, if there is one,
  3. reconnect the shift actuation.

Put the wheel in the dropouts with the chain on the sprocket and the cables not trapped.

Putting the wheel in

  • OEM: guide first the axle stub, then the support block into the dropout’s long slot.
  • OEM2: the plate’s fork hooks round the SPEEDBONE, MonkeyBone or support bolt pin.
  • PM: the plate’s fork hooks round the PM Bone pin.

CC with the long torque arm. Swing the arm into its holder and close quick release F: push locking pin G in until it is flush with the outside of the quick release. Finally close the axle quick release (at most 7 Nm).

TS with the long torque arm. Turn the arm’s end to the frame clamp so the bolt goes through. Tighten the axle nuts (30–35 Nm), then the clamp bolt with washer and nut (4 mm Allen, 6 Nm).

OEM, OEM2, PM. Close the quick release (CC, 7 Nm) or tighten the axle nuts (TS, 35 Nm).

External actuation. Set the shifter to gear 14. Put cable box E on guide pins H and push it fully home until the shift shaft’s hex I clicks in — turning the grip slightly back and forth around 14 helps. Tighten knurled screw D.

Internal actuation. Push the bayonet tip into the connector and, if needed, turn it slightly until the spring clicks in. Make sure the cables do not cross, and do not grip the spring.

E-14. An arrow on the side of plug and socket marks the alignment. Line them up, push them together without force while turning slightly back and forth until the lug clicks into the groove, then fully home. Reconnect at the earliest 10 minutes after switching the system off; do not use contact spray, and make sure the cable cannot get into the spokes or the brake disc.

The cable box went back on out of gear 14. There are two fixes:

  1. Take the cable box off, shift the grip to gear 1 and refit it. Turn the grip towards 14 up to the stop — the gearbox is now in 14, the grip not yet. Take it off again, set the grip to 14 and refit it.
  2. Take the cable box off and set the grip to 14. With an 8 mm spanner, turn the shift housing’s hex shaft anticlockwise to the stop, then refit the cable box.

Frequently asked questions

What if not all 14 gears work after refitting the wheel?
The cable box went back on out of gear 14. Take it off, shift the grip to gear 1, fit it, and turn the grip towards 14 up to the stop; take it off again, set the grip to 14 and refit it. Or: with the grip in 14, turn the shift shaft anticlockwise to the stop with an 8 mm spanner, and refit the cable box.
