Which bike is it for?
The SPEEDHUB fits almost any frame, from 135 to 197 mm wide, with threaded, quick-release and thru-axles — see Variants. What it gives you depends on what you ride.
Every day
Section titled “Every day”If you ride to work, school or the shops every day, with a SPEEDHUB you ride more and fix less. You can shift at a standstill, so you leave the red light already in the right gear. The gearbox is sealed, runs in oil and barely wears — the running cost is an oil change a year and the chain. The wide range helps in a hilly town too: you roll briskly downhill and climb in an easy gear. And it lasts so long it can serve several bikes in turn.
Touring
Section titled “Touring”14 real gears, a 526% range, even 13.6% steps. On the road what matters is that the gears never let you down: the forces of normal cycling cannot destroy a SPEEDHUB, and apart from a little oil it asks almost nothing. It has proved itself in deserts, rainforests and the Siberian winter. Preparing: Preparing for a long tour; winter notes: Riding in winter.
Mountain-bike marathons, downhill, fatbikes or tandems: the wide range copes with the steepest climb, and the hub takes the hardest drops. Riders on SPEEDHUBs have regularly made the podium at major mountain-bike races. With a chain or a Gates belt: Gates belt drive.
E-bikes
Section titled “E-bikes”The SPEEDHUB works with every mid-motor, front-hub motor and gearbox-shaft motor, on 45 km/h S-Pedelecs too. With the electronic E-14 shifter, motor and gearbox work together: when you shift, the motor eases off for a moment and the shift happens softly in about 180 ms — you can jump several gears at once, and when you stop it shifts back to your starting gear automatically. See Rohloff E-14.
