Care products and oils

Every drivetrain needs care. Rohloff makes its own products for two things: the SPEEDHUB’s gear unit and the chain.

SPEEDHUB oil

An oil change is recommended every year or 5,000 km: that keeps enough oil in the gear unit and clears out wear particles and dirt along the way.

• Oil-change kit (Art. no. 8410) — everything for one change: 12.5 ml SPEEDHUB OIL, 25 ml flushing oil in a 50 ml bottle, fill tube, oil drain screw and a disposable syringe. The steps are in Oil change.
• SPEEDHUB OIL — the all-season gear oil, also in 125 ml and 500 ml sizes for workshops and experienced home mechanics.
• Flushing oil — for rinsing the gear unit at an oil change, and for the thinner winter mix.

The all-season oil and the flushing oil are readily biodegradable to OECD 301: at least 50% breaks down in the first 10 days of the test and at least 60% over the full 28 days.

Rohloff oil only

Other oils or additives can damage the gear unit’s plastic parts and void the warranty. Why it takes this special oil is explained in Lubrication and oil.

Oil of Rohloff chain lube

This special chain lubricant was developed with a well-known German lubricant maker, specifically for the hard life of a bicycle chain. Its synthetic base oil and special additives give high pressure resistance and good creep and glide; it repels water and so protects better against rust.

• Readily biodegradable to OECD 301F, and made from more than 90% renewable raw materials.
• Refillable bottle — cleanly topped up with a pump from a 1-litre or 5-litre can. Less waste, lower cost.
• VSF award — in the German bicycle trade association’s test, two of 19 chain lubricants were awarded; Oil of Rohloff was recognised for the best lubricating properties.
