Retrofitting an existing SPEEDHUB
The E-14 Solo’s biggest promise is that you do not need a new bike for it. Your existing SPEEDHUB — whether this year’s or twenty years old — can get electronic shifting, and the gearbox, wheel, chain or belt all stay.

What changes on the bike?
Section titled “What changes on the bike?”| Part | When retrofitting |
|---|---|
| Actuation on the hub | electronic unit instead of the mechanical one |
| Control on the bar | Rohloff Trigger (flat bar) or TRP Hywire Brifter (drop bar) |
| Battery | mounted externally on the frame; charged over USB-C |
| Hub, wheel, chain or belt | stay |
What do we check first?
Section titled “What do we check first?”- the hub’s version and condition — on a hub that has gone years without a service, the fitting is a good moment for maintenance too;
- the dropout width (135–197 mm) and axle type;
- where the battery fits, and how the cable can run along the frame;
- the handlebar and where the control unit goes.
